Weekly Writing Prompt

Hello all,

It is time for another week’s writing prompt. I have strayed from my normal prompts. I hope you gain a better liking of the one I chose this week. This week’s prompt comes from 100 Paranormal Fantasy Writing Prompts Posted on February 28, 2024, and is:

Prompt: A witch discovers her family possesses an ancient book of spells that must not fall into the wrong hands.

“What is this? Do not tell me nothing, again.”

“Jaylen, I’ve asked you where you found it.”

“it does not matter where I found it.” The dark gray leather bound book was the size of an antique reference book, but the pages were yellowed out, and they appeared so old that they might tear if you turned them. “Now, nana. Tell me.”

“It is dangerous for you to have that.” Nana pushed back her silvery streak of hair, but her hand shook as she held them out to me. “Let me have it, please, Jaylen.”

“No. I think it is best in my possession. Mewma told me it belonged to our family and it was my time to have it. So, I will keep it.”

“Your, Mewma, is an insane old woman who should keep her mouth shut.”

“Nana!”

“That book is dangerous to the one who holds it. And it must never fall into the hands of the wrong group of people. You are too young to defend it. You have not been taught how to do so.”

“Then teach me. If it belongs to my family then it is my time to inherit it. My parents would have given it to me.” I knew those words would seal it into my hands. The mere fact that my mother and father had lost their lives when I was ten always got me what I wanted. This time would be no different, and the way Nana’s eyes watered and her lips quivered before she opened her mouth told me what was to come next.

“Fine. But the book stays within these walls while I do so. Promise.” “Then so do I.”
