The SUn rises Over Charles

Chapter One – Charles

The bright, yellow glow kissed my naked skin as it hung above me. Warmth took me into another world, one I longed to be back in. The days when another body increased the heat, zeroing in on me. Those days that as two became one while another watched, savoring in the love of us. Long-ago days only dreamed of since Lord Zarus banned the Dark Creatures from the Earth Realm. In retaliation, King Thadus closed all portals to the Dark Realm. Hundreds of thousands of couples were torn apart because of a failed relationship. One ending so horrible it destroyed the world as every creature alive knew it.

“Charles,” a figure cast a shadow over my body, “Lord Zarus is asking for an audience with you.”

“It’s my day off. He knows it, Raphel.”

“Apparently, a major issue has arisen, and only his best can handle it, Sir.”

What good is being the best if you can’t get a day to rejuvenate? Fifteen high-level criminals in three days equated at least more than two hours away from the castle.

“Is Linus not there?”

“He is, but Lord Zarus desires you, Sir. Please return to the castle with me now. I was to have you there an hour ago, but I could not find you.”

“How did you?”

“Luck. Drove by and saw your bike.”

Knew the bright pink bike my long-lost lover gifted me would end up being my downfall.

“Sir, please do not send me back to him without you. I’m already facing punishment. I do not wish death.”

Lord Zarus would kill Ralphel for my actions, only to send another poor soul out to find me. I lifted a handful of sand, letting it slip between my fingers, trickling over identical small grains. A relaxing technique that my lover used to do when stress plagued him, one I picked up since I lost him.

“Fine. Wait for me at my bike.”
