Chapter 13 – Charles
Sweetness like the freshest orange seeped into my skin. I’d not tasted anything like it since my lovers were floating between realms doing the work they loved. And doing me each and every day of our lives. Jakob used to tell me that there’d be only one taste like him and Adre, and I believed him until that moment. Right then, in that single solidarity moment, I tasted that sweetness. That awakening moment in my life that I feared would never come again. How had it found its way to me? Why in the shape of the one person who could destroy me in so many ways? Better yet, why did my body take on a mind of its own?
My hands slipped around the base of his neck, tugging him a bit closer, increasing the pressure on our lips until he parted his lips, allowing my tongue to slip inside his hot, moist mouth. I stroked slowly and luxuriously, turning his gentle touch of our lips into a hot encounter that my body desired from the taste I’d longed for ever since his father shut the portals down, killing my husbands. My husbands like many other dark creatures, who have found their soul mate and dedicated their lives to them, can’t survive if they aren’t in contact with them on a daily basis.
Hands ran down my sides, gripping my hips, which were grinding into Daro’s midsection. Tight fingers wrapped around my hip bone and pushed me away a bit as a nip to my lower lip brought me crashing back to reality.
“Hey, baby, slow down. We’ve got all the time in the world. I promise.” Daro placed one last small kiss on my lips. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“That’s what you think,” I said and stepped back from him, taking in the two goons from the middle of the night invasion. “We need to discover why they thought it necessary to break into your room.”
“Not before you agree there is an us.”
“A what?”
“You heard me. I know the kiss showed me how much you wished there to be an us, but wishing and agreeing are two different things. And I want there to be an us. So, we straighten things out between us, then move on.”
‘I think,” I rolled my eyes at him, hating how such a stupid act made my head hurt, “that you need to worry about your plan first. Not some infatuation with me.” Not that it felt like that to me. I wanted him. No one ever made me feel such since Jakob and Andre. Not that I could tell him that. No one could know that. If anyone found out, we’d be required to go straight to Lord Zarius and get married. Or Lord Zarius would have me killed outright. Depending on how he truly felt about me.
Daro crossed his arms and walked over to his bed, sitting down, patting the spot next to him. “Join me.”
I walked over to Jazz, kicking the heel of his boot, and said, “What was your goal coming into your Prince’s room tonight?”
